Giant, GD France 2010 Slayersword (Maxime Penaud)

I don't think this figure needs any introduction right now. I could comment and talk a lot about it but I will just say that (obviously) its a giant turning into a treeman, totally sculpted (except for a few pieces, but totally sculpted, one would normally think its made out of the Giant GW kit because it's so awesomely sculpted) and that it is said that there were more than 800 hours put into this creation (so they say, I don't know if this is true).

This figure is right now motivating a lot of people to create and do something different. AWESOME!

Golden Demon France 2010, first impressions

Golden Demon France 2010 took place last weekend, Sunday 18 April. A great contest with lots of great miniatures, as I have been told. There is being a lot of chatter lately about french artists and their ability to create and innovate with their figures. Specially since photos of the french Slayersword were released. The award went to Maxime Penaud, for his extraordinary Giant, a crazy art piece (true art) which he started making more than a year ago. I could see the figure live last year in GD France 2009, Maxime was kind enough to show progress of the sculpture, and it was really amazing, truly promising (as it has finally turned out).

Here I leave you some photos I found about figures presented in the contest, there are a lot more of course, but these are some of the ones which I find remarkable (again, only a little selection).

Congratulations to our Spanish comrades, only JMPN ended winning awards but this is because the expedition turned out arriving late in the end and their miniatures had to enter Open competition instead of the categories they were meant to. So I guess we will see their figures on Golden Demon Spain 2010! (warming up for an event which seems to be very promising)

Here's an article about the event from the official GW page:

I'll put photos of the Slayersword on another post, as that masterpiece deserves a post of its own ;)

Bonesinger sculpture, new sketches

I have been sent some more sketches from the artist which draw the original artwork which will be the inspiration for the Bonesinger I'm going to sculpt for a Warhammer gaming club in UK.

I think it's a really really cool concept. I'm sure it will turn out as a great figure. Stay tuned!

Star Wars in 30 mm - Knightmodels new release

As I mentioned some time ago, Knightmodels was going to release a new Star Wars line but in a different scale: 30mm. Great news for fans of this scale like me! Well the day has finally arrived.

Look at these 4 new releases from Knightmodels on their web, impressive:

Han Solo
Anakin Skywalker
Luke Skywalker
Obi Wan Kenobi

I would love to buy them all. Now you know what to get me if you want to make me a present ;)

And yes, Golden Demon France took place this sunday and everyone is talking of how amazing the level was. I'll talk about it soon enough, once I have time to see through all the images arriving.

Starting Bonesinger sculpture, comission work

I recently accepted a commission sculpture, an eldar bonesinger for a UK gaming club. Here's the concept art:

I don't have a lot of time right now with all my preparation for upcoming contests and stuff, but as soon as I start working on it I will share progress with you readers.

Golden Demon France 2010 is taking place right now! Good luck to our spanish painters, we hope to see a lot of great miniatures.

GD France 2010 with or without volcano

Finally flights from Madrid to Paris were cancelled yesterday, however, some of the Spanish Armada have decided to go anyway and rented a car. They must be on their way now to Paris. These true warriors are JMPN (Jose Manuel Palomares), Dieguete (Diego Esteban), Stuff (Israel González), Fenix (Borja García) and Petrus (Pedro Rufo). Good luck guys!!

GD France 2010 and the volcano in Iceland

Europe's air transportation is a total chaos these days due to the volcanic ash coming from a volcano eruption in Iceland. And GD France 2010 this weekend is probably going to suffer the consequences. I've heard many painters saying they won't be able to travel to Paris as they had planned. Spanish painters attending this weekend are also waiting for news about their flights, they might not be able to travel. Does this mean that GD France won't be having as much international participation as usual? Let's hope this doesn't happen as GD France is probably the most important regarding level of entries, we don't want to lose all the great pieces we see every year in that contest. However, if you were planning to travel to Paris and won't be able to make it, maybe you should be considering attending GD Spain 2010 instead! You know it will be taking place on July 4 in Madrid, might be a good excuse to come!
